Six years ago I was getting ready for another day of class at my high school. Every morning I'd watch the news for the weather as I ate breakfast.
Six years ago today I remember turning on the news and thinking that a new movie was being advertised. Who would think that someone would actually fly jet liners into the Towers? It took a moment for it to sink in that it was real as I watched the second plane strike the other tower, and that another plane had hit the Pentagon. I called my mother and told her what happened. My mother didn't believe it either at first. We both just stood there and watched in horrified awe as first one, then the other of the Towers collapsed. I'm sure many have said it, but it's still true that it didn't feel real, it was too horrible.

And yet that horrible event was used to shed further blood in Afganistan and Iraq. I love my birth country, but I am ashamed of my government. I support the troops who signed up in patriotic fever after that initial, heartless act. I condemn the souless war that the troops are forced to spend their lives in. We need to bring them home. That's all I have to say.
